Installing AGEphone Mobile 2

The installation process is straightforward with only one way to get AGEphone Mobile 2 on your Windows Mobile 5 / 6 device. We opted for using a .CAB file that Windows Mobile treats like Windows treat any installer. We decided against using ActiveSync / Windows Mobile device center because both are Windows exclusive and leave non Windows users out of the loop. It also makes direct device installation impossible in case users download our softphone directly to their device. In order to get started, please...

1. Get the .CAB file

You can either grab "AGEphoneMobile2.CAB" from our download page in the "AGEphone Mobile" section or directly from here if you use a mobile browser. Please note that some mobile browsers like Opera Mobile will change the extension from .CAB to .ZIP upon which Windows Mobile packer programs complain that the file "is not a valid archive". Simply rename the file to .CAB again in order to proceed.

2. Copy the .CAB file to your device

If you have downloaded the file with your mobile browser and renamed it as described in 1. you can omit this step and move on to point 3.

If you have used any desktop browser to get the file, you need to copy in onto your Windows Mobile device before you can start the installation. Double clicking on the .CAB file on your desktop will open an archive with lots of cryptic file names. This is not the way to proceed. All you need to do is place the file somehwere on your device or storage card. It doesn't matter if you use ActiveSync, a card reader or any other means to do so, but keep an eye on the available space: The AGEphone Mobile 2 install file needs about 5 MB. Once installed, another 6 / 3.5 MB (after unnecessary skins have been cleaned out) are required and you should make sure that there is still enough space on the device after you copy the .CAB file to device memory.

3. Install the .CAB file

Locate the installation "AGEphoneMobile2.CAB" file on your device and execute it with either a click or double click (depending on your file explorer). You will be greeted by an install screen that after a short load time shows the different storage locations on your devic. If you have only device memory available, setup will commence the install immediately without further confirmation.

If a previous version of AGEphone Mobile 1 or 2 has been detected setup asks for your OK to overwrite it. Don't worry about your previous configuration: The newer version will take over all your settings, accounts, histories and voicemails untouched. Once given, the installer needs about a minutes to install the softphone and notifies you once it's done. Press OK again to close this dialog and you are done!

4. Manual settings

You can delete or move the "AGEphoneMobile2.CAB" file after the installation as it is not needed for using the program.

If you take a look into the "AGEphone" folder under "Program Files" you will notice that there are many skin files for other resolutions in there. It is not necessary to clean out those by hand as AGEphone Mobile 2 will do so automatically on the first program start.

Also, if you don't like the "AGEphone Mobile 2"and AGEphone Settings" shortcuts directly under the Start Men, please go to "Start - Settings" and select "Menu" there. You can then just remove the check in front of both entries upon which they will be placed in the "Start - Programs" folder.

And lastly, without going into the program options you will see an AGEphone Mobile today screen plugin the next time you boot up Windows Mobile. If you do not want the plugin to show up, please go to "Start -Settings" and select "Today". Go to the "Items" tab and clear the checkbox in front of "AGEphone".

Uninstalling AGEphone Mobile 2

Uninstalling AGEphone Mobile 2 usually is an easy and painless process that involves but a few clicks:

1. Start the automatic uninstaller

Just click on "Start - Settings" and the "System" tab and locate the "Programs" entry. After entering the menu find "ageet Corporation AGEphone"and hit the "Uninstall" button below the selection field. Once you confirm the ensuing popup with OK the uninstall process starts and should finish soon.

2. Manual cleanup

Please note that while the uninstall routine deletes the program files, registry entries and the today plugin, it keeps all of your settings and voicemail files in the "My Documents / My Phone Boot" folder. If you are sure that you don't need these files anymore you can go ahead and delete it to save some more space. Apart from that, AGEphone Mobile 2 does not leave behind any files that need to be cleaned up (provided the uninstallation process went smoothly).
