16. AGEphone Mobile and 3G / WiFi connection startup.
01. I cannot input anything into the field "Public Address"
When I open the options screen from the menu, I cannot enter anything into the field "Public Address". Why is that?
While AGEphone is running, it is not possible to add new telephone services. If you wish to add a new service, please exit AGEphone, then choose "Options" from Start > All Programs > AGEphone. [ UP]
02. How can I reset AGEphone to the standard values?
Go to the folder "My Phone Booth" in the "My Documents" folder. There is a file named "sipd.conf", in which configuration values are saved. If you delete this file and restart AGEphone Desktop, the settings will be reset to standard values. [UP]
03. I want to call another IP phone P2P.
Just add two "#" signs as a prefix to the callee's IP address and port (##IPAddress:port) before dialing.
For example: #192.168.0.2:11000
If you are using the dial field buttons for input, substitute '.' with '*' and ':' with '#'.
For example: ##192*168*0*2#11000 [UP]
04. After 2-3 minutes, calls are automatically interrupted.
After 2-3 minutes, calls are automatically interrupted or thee message "forbidden" is displayed when dialing.
Try to change the value of "Session Expires" in the Options Screen to 180. [UP]
05. Network problems!
One way communication or the connection cannot be established at all while using correct provider settings.
In case you made sure about your VoIP provider settings, it is possible that AGEphone does not connect due to network traversal problems. You can confirm this right after AGEphone starts up by keeping an eye on the display. If you receive a "... NAT" message then the problem probably lies elsewhere. In case you receive a "Blocked" though we have nailed it! This means that AGEphone was not able to reach your internet telephony provider and you may want to make sure of a couple of things:
1. Is it possible that your provider blocks SIP VoIP? While on the decline, some internet and especially mobile broadband providers still choose this path to get rid of competition. At first you should make sure that this is really the case by contacting customer support. If they confirm your suspicion can either use a VPN to conceal all VoIP traffic or change your provider (if possible).
2. Are you trying to run AGEphone on a 3rd party hotspot or your company network? In this case SIP VoIP might be blocked or the network layout is so complex (multiple chained routers) that AGEphone has difficulties to determine the way out. Please ask your network administrator for the correct IPs to fill into the AGEphone Desktop and Mobile network settings.
3. You are using an ActiveSync connection. Please note that this type of connection, while adequate for surfing the web or checking your mails, is not sufficient to run SIP VoIP calls. There is little we can do to fix this and your best shot might be to try to set up an ad-hoc WiFi network between your PC and your mobile to get access to your landline internet connection. [UP]
06. I still have connection problems...
I have tried everything to set up my server and network settings, but still have problems. Can you help me?
If you would like us to troubleshoot your settings, please generate a log to send to our support. For the desktop version, just open up the AGEphone menu by right-clicking on the application window and select "About AGEphone". After that click on "More" which displays a log of the softphone's settings. Either press the button or highlight and copy all the text yourself, paste it in a mail and send it to our support mail address. For the mobile version, click on the "Menu - About - More... - Save" and follow the path given in the popup window. Send the report to our support and make sure to give as many details about your problem as possible. [UP]
07. How is AGEphone different from Skype?
With Skype I can also make calls over the internet. How is AGEphone different from Skype? What about voice quality?
AGEphone and Skype are fundamentally different in the way they enable voice calls over the internet. While Skype uses a proprietary protocol to do so, AGEphone employs the open Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). What does that mean for users? First off, cheaper calls because there is competition! Skype is just one provider and either their plans suit you or not. If you take a look at this page you will find that a small selection of SIP VoIP providers can easily undercut Skype's pricing for many destinations. Being open also means that there is a whole ecosystem of hard- and software solutions that interact with each other and make private and business telephony more comfortable, secure and innovative. And lastly, it's about choice: AGEphone puts many options in your hands and it's up to you which way to go! [UP]
08. I can hear my own voice coming from the speaker.
Go to the control panel and open "Sound and Audio Devices". Once you have opened the Volume options for your current audio device, please make sure that the microphone is be muted like in the above screenshot. If this is not the case, your voice will be always be played back through the speakers. [UP]
09. Are video calls or large phone conferences possible?
Currently, these features are not supported. [UP]
10. How do I pay my phone bill when using AGEphone?
As ageet does not offer any internet telephony services and after paying for the software there will be no further claims from us. As it is completely up to you which VoIP provider to decide for, payments will vary according to your choice. Let's assume that you have signed up with nonoh.net as an example. You create an account and top up your balance via CC, PayPal, MoneyBookers and many other payment systems in order to get access to cheap rates and 120 days of free calls to many destinations. If you make calls using your account they will be charged exactly as indicated on the provider's price page. You can log into your account to track all calls made and recharge your balance when necessary. [ UP]
11. What about phone calls when I am abroad?
Can I make phone calls using my telephone number in my home country when I am abroad? Also, what about the charges if somebody calls me via my dial in number in my home country while I am abroad?
Many VoIP service providers are offering dial in numbers and you can usually use those to set your caller ID no matter where you are calling from. Some services also allow registering your standard (non-internet) numbers as your caller ID. If someone call your internet dial in number while you are abroad they will pay the same fees as if they were calling the number normally and usually there will be no fee for you to accept the call unless otherwise mentioned. Please note that even if you can select your ordinary landline or mobile number as a caller ID, charges for calls to this number will be the same as usual. [ UP]
12. Any rebates for purchasing multiple ageet products?
For example, if I purchase AGEphone Desktop now, can I get an AGEphone Mobile license at a reduced price?
We currently offer rebates for customers who have bought AGEphone Desktop or Mobile that give you access to both versions for $50 instead of $70 USD. Please contact us if you need larger quantities of either program and we can talk about volume pricing or reseller programs. [UP]
13. What's the maximal lenght for announcements?
I want to use AGEphone as an answering machine. What is the maximal length for announcements?
The length of messages in general is not limited by the program itself and it solely depends on the free space on your hard disk or device. Please record and save announcements for your answering machine at a sampling frequency of 8000Hz as 16 bit WAV files. [ UP]
14. I can't move AGEphone to my secondary display!
If you wish to move AGEphone Desktop to your secondary display, drag the window while holding down the shift key. [UP]
15. Why can I make but I cannot receive calls?
The simplest answer is that you may not be registered to the provider. This happens when you enter your provider data correctly, but remove the hook in front of it in the list. This way the provider is ready when you place a call as AGEphone sends your username and password with the call data. But once you hang up the connection is not preserved. Only by setting the hook in front of the provider AGEphone constantly reminds the service that the softphone is ready to accept calls.
Another reason might be if you use your VoIP service on multiple softphones / devices and the provider does not allow multiple simultaneous registrations or call forking. In that case we have a "winner takes all" situation and only one end will ring upon incoming calls. There is little that we can do about this and the only options are to switch off one of the devices or talk with your VoIP provider's support and see if they can do something about it. [UP]
16. AGEphone Mobile and 3G / WiFi connection startup.
Can I enable the WiFi or 3G connect automatically when AGEphone Mobile starts?
Yes, both is possible and in order to do so please
1. Open up the AGEphone Mobile settings
2. Click on Power Saving
3. Set "Activate Wireless" to either "WiFi" or "3G" to enable the corresponding connection upon program start
This should work on most devices, but some WiFi implementations might refuse to start up on their own. Please let us know if you are affected by this and we may be able to produce a fix. [UP]
